Your character will start as a teenager and it is up to you, and your luck to define how their life turns out. You maybe a regular teenager like one of these:
Consider this as the first version of the story- you will be able to contribute your ideas for options as to how the story will progress in the future.
The idea behind this project, part of the Online Writing subject in the Master of Arts (Writing) course through Swinburne University of Technology, is a multiple character, "Choose Your Own Adventure" hypertext fiction.
The characters start out in high school, then according to their decisions, progress through their life. You can see a sample of these stories in this project, but I would like to hear from the readers of how they would like the story to progress, then we're all in this together.
To come back to this first post, click on the text at the top Sometimes You Just Know. The name comes from a song from the Brisbane band Fires of Waco. Throughout the text you will find a mix of overtly Australian references and a couple of references to Chilean spanish. That gives away a little about the author, I am an Australian who has just moved to Chile.
For the design elements of this project, I have used one of the default templates. My artistic skills I would rate somewhere between "very bad" and "not very good". My focus has been on keeping consistent throughout the stories, for example, when there are two options to choose from, they will be about the same distance apart.
The posts are displayed one by one, the main reason for that is not to give away the rest of the story for each character. The stories play out by following hyperlinks, each is a new blog post. That was why I used a standard blog provider, having that easy ability to link through the posts.
Where I haven't had the technological skills, I have done what I can to display what will happen. For example, my plan was to have a rolling dice, with the options automatically selected. At the moment, just click one of the numbers and it will begin the story of the character. The idea behind the project is to use a mix of choice and chance to unravel the stories.
The story is really open to anyone, it is designed for young adults, but depending on what the users add to the project, I think everyone could have fun with this project. Of course user contributions will be moderated, the best will end up inside the storylines.
